The Frogmill – Cheltenham

Wow, Wow, Wow. Honestly, I cannot describe how wonderful our evening at The Frogmill was, they’ve had a huge refurb, the place is absolutely stunning, the food is immense and the service is top notch. Before I delve into my review I thought it was necessary to open with that, incase you read no further. Just go and try it!!

Atmosphere

The pictures say it all, but set in the beautiful outskirts of Cheltenham, this is an absolute gem. I didn’t realise how close it was (next time we’ll get a taxi!) and as we parked the car up, despite the rain I was blown away by the beautiful setting. Crossing over the little brook into a beautiful outside space, covered in fairy lights, I already felt we were in for a good evening.

Inside, it’s huge, but with lots of little cubby holes to make it feel like a charming, cosy country pub. They have a beautiful conservatory area which opens the restaurant up to a lovely setting if you are dining, with the pub set at the back of the venue.

There was a good feeling of hustle and bustle, and lots of very content customers.

Service

Some of the best service I’ve ever received. And I (nosily) listened into other customers conversations, and was very aware that everyone in the restaurant was being made to feel like they were the only, and most important people in the room.

Our waitress (Lauren) was extremely friendly, knowledgable and gave us her time. I know that sounds silly, but she wasn’t rushing off to other customers, because there were enough members of staff there to enable everyone to have a valuable conversation. We left feeling totally spoilt and looked after, exactly how you should feel after an evening out. I’d most certainly head back, for any occasion but it will be a big contender for birthday dinners moving forward!

Food

Was fantastic. Knowing we were about to embark on a 3-day juice diet the following day (which I am 2/3 of the way through whilst writing this post… torture!) we knew we wanted to eat like Kings. Their menu has so much selection, and I loved how it was a little different to what you normally may expect from this type of restaurant.

For starter, we shared the Potted Sun Blushed Tomato & Oregano Houmous which came with Lebanese flatbread, and the Peanut & Sesame Josper Fired Chicken Lollipops. I love anything tomato based, so the houmous was a huge win for me, and the chicken was tender, succulent and full of flavour. They have a Coal-Fired oven and American Smoker, so the meat menu is pretty impressive, which is enough to convince me (and D!) any day.

For the main course, I was feeling a little bit naughty so ordered the Burger, which came with some of the best skin-on fries I’ve ever tasted. D ordered steak, with peppercorn sauce, beef dripping creamed potatoes (pretty much heaven in a bowl) and some maple & beer glazed carrots (for me)! Everything was cooked to perfection, and I can’t wait for our next visit.

We couldn’t leave without trying their desserts, so we ordered one each to share. The Strawberry Eton Mess, and the Chocolate Delice. The chocolate was a great combination of rich and sweet, with a mousse type chocolate topping, and it was served with an extremely tasty salted maple ice cream. The Eton mess was to die for, I would like to eat their strawberry sorbet everyday for the rest of my life!!

Price and Rating

Unsurprisingly, it’s the usual gastro-pub type prices that you would expect. On average around £9 per starter, £18 per main dish, and £6 for a dessert. Perhaps slightly more than you might pay in your average Cheltenham restaurant, but this place is a cut above the rest, so it’s most certainly worth the extra.

If you haven’t got time for dinner, pop in and have a drink in the pub, it’s worth a look around the stunning venue.

Visit their website and book yourself in, you won’t regret it!
